After we make a decision in a case, either side may apply for permission to appeal. Most appeals follow the same process unless the Appeal Bench changes it by direction or order.

Within 21 days of the original decision, you can apply for permission to appeal. Submit the Notice to appeal and the appeal book. At this point, you become the ‘appellant’.
After you submit your appeal book to us, you must send a copy to the other side in the case as soon as possible.
If you applied for an order to stay or pause the original decision, we organise a hearing to consider that application.
We may ask the appellant and the respondent for information before the hearing.
Usually the hearing is within 12 weeks of the application date. For many appeals, the Appeals Bench decides whether to give ('grant') you permission to appeal AND hears the main case in the same session. Sometimes these are 2 separate hearings.
Within 8 to 12 weeks of the hearing, the Bench issues its decision.
