The organisation’s supreme governing authority lies with the National Congress. Members elect Delegates to Congress from geographic, employment, occupational and other electorates based on attributes’ members hold or identify with.
The National Executive is the committee of management of the organisation and is comprised of the National President, the National Secretary, two National Assistant Secretaries and other Executive Members elected by and from Congress Delegates.
There are no branches and the organisation reports as a single financial reporting unit.
Elections for most offices within the organisation are conducted by the AEC. As a result of a decision issued by the Commission in 2023 (E2023/48), the FSU holds an exemption which allows it to conduct the election for officers elected by its National Congress. Officers of the organisation are elected at 4 year intervals.
